  • Splain Matthew

    About Matthew Splain

    After graduating from Otto-Eldred, Mr. Splain received his bachelor's degree in 1997 and began his teaching career in the Coudersport School District. As a teacher in Coudersport, Mr. Splain coached girls basketball and softball, compiling over 100 wins and three District IX titles as the head girls basketball coach for four seasons. He finished his master's coursework in curriculum and instruction at Gannon University and qualified for his principal's certification in 2001. In March 2005, Mr. Splain became the high school principal at Otto-Eldred where he served for six years. During that time, Mr. Splain completed additional coursework at St. Bonaventure University and received his superintendent’s letter in 2010. He became the superintendent of schools for the Otto-Eldred School District in April 2011.

    Mr. Splain currently serves as president of the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools (PARSS).  As President of PARSS, Mr. Splain testified in the Pennsylvania Fair Funding Court case on behalf of all small and rural schools in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and serves on the Legislative Committee for the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators. For the last six years, he has served as a board member for UPMC Cole. He is a former member of the PIAA District IX Committee and past board member for McKean County CASA. In 2023, he completed the Pennsylvania Education Policy Leadership Program with a focus in promoting Early Childhood Education.

    He enjoys volunteering his time as a youth sports coach for numerous local organizations and serves on the Parish Finance Council for St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred.

    Mr. Splain currently lives in Duke Center with his wife, Melanie, and their four sons, Maxton, Manning, Macaibe, and Maddon.

    Lindsay Burns Director of Pupil Services and Special Education lburns@ottoeldred.org

    About Lindsay Burns

    Mrs. Burns serves as the director of Pupil Services and Special Education. Mrs. Burns focuses her efforts on state requirements set forth under Chapter 14 (Special Education), Chapter 15 (504 Service Agreements) and Chapter 16 (Gifted Education). Mrs. Burns also serves as the homeless liaison, foster care liaison, and Act 1 point of contact. Mrs. Burns is the district transportation coordinator and oversees all student services, which includes cooperative professional relationships with outside agencies.

    Mrs. Burns graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a bachelor's of science degree in elementary and special education in 2005. She continued her education at Edinboro University where she completed her master's degree in educational leadership (2010) and Superintendent Letter of Eligibility (2021). Mrs. Burns holds certification in elementary education, special education, administration K–12, supervision of special education K–12, and superintendency. Mrs. Burns has worked within the Otto-Eldred School District since 2005.  

    Mrs. Burns resides in Bradford with her husband, Corey, and their two children, Cooper and Beckett.

    About Nicholas LaBella

    Mr. LaBella is a 1998 graduate of Otto-Eldred and a 2002 graduate of St. Bonaventure University. He began his teaching career in nearby Port Allegany before returning to Otto-Eldred as a secondary mathematics teacher. After fifteen years of teaching, Mr. LaBella served as assistant principal at Floyd C. Fretz Middle School in Bradford for five years before returning to Otto-Eldred to become the high school principal in the summer of 2022.

    Mr. LaBella currently resides in Bradford with his wife Nichole, daughter Ava, and son Gehrig.
