Wellness
Otto-Eldred School District recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to students’ well-being, growth, development, and readiness to learn. We are committed to providing a school environment that promotes student and faculty wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning experience. In a healthy school environment, students learn about and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices that can improve student achievement.
We invite the public to join our committee and become involved in the development, review, update, and implementation of our wellness policy at any time throughout the school year. Please email Sophia Graham with questions or to join.

March is Nutrition Month
Just as cars need gasoline to run, bodies need nutrients like vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates to grow up healthy. To be your healthiest, you need to give your body the right kinds and amounts of food. Fruits and vegetables have important nutrients to keep your body healthy. Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables!
Please see our Eat Right flyer for more food, nutrition, and health tips from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Act 117 – Parental Education of Type 1 Diabetes
On October 29, 2024, Act 117 was signed into law in Pennsylvania. This law, which is effective December 29, 2024, added section 1414.12, related to Type 1 Diabetes Education Parental Notification to the Public School Code. Act 117 enables the Department of Health (DOH) to develop informational materials for parents and guardians about Type 1 Diabetes. Under Act 117, the informational materials must be updated periodically as necessary and must be made available on DOH’s public website. Additionally, beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, a school entity or non-public school must make this material available in writing, electronically, or on the school entity or non-public school’s public website to the parent or guardian of a student when the student first enrolls in elementary school and again when a student enters grade six.
Pertaining to this Act: A “school entity” shall mean a school district, area career and technical school, charter school, regional charter school, cyber charter school, or intermediate unit. A nonpublic school shall mean a nonprofit school, other than a school entity, located in this Commonwealth where a resident of this Commonwealth may legally fulfill the compulsory attendance requirements of this act.
